Veteran's Hospital

This Valentine’s Day, I had the privilege of spending the day with our servicemen at the Veteran’s Hospital in Denver. It is so easy for us all to forget just how lucky we are to have the rights and freedoms that we do, and nothing brought that home more than witnessing first hand the sacrifices our Vets and their families have made. I am so truly blessed to have been given this opportunity which has changed my life forever.
Just a few days after undergoing a 22 hour facial surgery, I was met with all smiles by one man and his lovely wife who had been by his side since arriving from Montana. The nearly day-long operation required surgeons to stay through the night and into the next day to finish what they had started. However, meeting this Vet and his wife you could only see their gratitude and appreciation for life.
Every room I entered I was told told stories of their lives... not just of their days serving our country, but of their families, their careers after being discharged and their hobbies. One man was the designer for the Nebraska state quarter and sent me home with my very own to remember him by.
The stories I heard the people I met that day have truly inspired me to act more selflessly and live each day more fully.
